Postdoctoral Position available to work on mechanisms of viral
neuropathogenesis and the construction of oncolytic virus prototypes
directed against brain tumors.
We have discovered a powerful mechanism of directing viral gene
expression to brain tumor cells while excluding normal neuronal cells
(Gromeier et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. 93:2370-2375; Gromeier et al.
J. Virol. 73:958-964). Future studies will address the molecular basis
of cell type specific viral gene expression in the CNS and how it can be
exploited for novel approaches toward the treatment of malignant brain
Preparations for entering a prototype oncolytic recombinant picornavirus
into a clincal trial are underway.
Expertise in basic molecular biology techniques and/or molecular
virology is required.
