RESEARCH INTERESTS: 
Molecular biology of Human papillomavirus infections, protein
purification (recombinant and tissue protein), protein modeling by
computers

SKILLS: 
Molecular biology, cloning (DNA/RNA level), protein expression and
purification, in situ hybridization, protein modeling by computers,
DNA and protein sequence manipulation with various program packages
(GCG etc), familiar with MS-DOS and Windows based programs, fluent in
finnish, english, german and swedish.

EXPERIENCE:
Scientific researcher August 85-->July 96 (over 10.5 years)

Task to develope and enhance Human papillomavirus (HPV)
diagnostic methods. 
Assist other researchers in finding information from various sources
(MEDLINE, DNA and protein sequence and structural (PDB) databases

Masters thesis - "Purification and characterization of two cysteine
proteinase inhibitors from human tonsilla" Advisor - Docent Ph.D.
Mikko Jarvinen Ph.D. thesis - " The pathobiologic correlates of human
papillomavirus infection". Completed in May 1996. Dissertation was
19th June 1996. Advisor - Professor Veli-Pekka Lehto

PUBLICATIONS:
Cystatin C containing neurons in postmortem hypothalamus.
Human Papillomavirus DNA and abnormal p53 expression in
carcinoma of the urinary bladder.
p53 protein accumulation and the presence of human papillomavirus DNA
in bronchiolo-alveolar carcinoma correlate with poor prognosis.
Aberrant p53 expression in HPV associated cervical lesions. Tenascin
in human papillomavirus (HPV) associated cervical lesions. Cystatin A
in condylomatous and dysplastic lesions of the human cervix
Correlation with the presence and type of human papillomavirus
infection.

Tenascin expression in Lichen schlerosum et atropicus
Immunohistochemical and ISH study.
Detection of human papillomavirus infection by non-isotopic in
situ hybridization in condylomatous and CIN lesions.
The association of PCNA-positivity with HPV status in cervical 
intraepithelial lesions.
The presence of human papillomavirus DNA is inversely related
to abnormal p53 protein expression in lung carcinoma.
Cystatins A and C inhibit BK-virus multiplication in cell 
cultures.
Detection of HPV infection of female lower genital tract by 
colposcopy, histology, cytology and DNA-hybridization.

MISCELLANOUS:
I practise flying, having a private pilots license, single
engine land.
