NEW RESOURCE: PALS module
The PALS modules (Pesticide Applied Learning Series) makes current
scientific topics on agriculture, the environment and health available to
pesticide safety educators and extension educators. This module explores
the current scientific evidence of whether exposure to the herbicide
atrazine affects the risk of cancer. The module is available in three formats:
1) Guidebook - downloadable as a PDF document
2) Interactive Version - for individualized self study
3) Adaptable Power Point Version - for group presentations.

BCERF would like to thank William Smith, Senior Extension Associate, and
Andrea Brown, Computer Systems Specialist, in the Cornell Pesticide
Management and Education Program (PMEP) for their efforts in developing the
web interface for the PALS atrazine module. The module content was
developed by Suzanne Snedeker of BCERF.

AVAILABLE POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS: talks from EPA-sponsored conference
In August 2003, Suzanne Snedeker, BCERF Associate Director of Translational
Research, was an invited speaker at the EPA-sponsored "2003 North American
Pesticide Applicator Certification and Safety Education Workshop." She
presented a talk entitled: "Breast Cancer and Environmental Chemicals; Why
is There Concern?" Dr. Snedeker also presented (in cooperation with Sabina
Swift and Jennifer Weber), a talk entitled "Non-English Language Pesticide
Safety Education Materials, Results from a Needs Assessment."

NEWS YOU CAN USE: Prostate Cancer Risk in Pesticide Applicators
Important news about male prostate cancer and exposure to pesticides is
featured on our "News You Can Use" page. Results from Agricultural Health
Study published in May 2003 reported a higher risk of prostate cancer in
male pesticide applicators. Find out more about the relationship between
