Position: Pharmacology/Toxicology, Univ. of Texas at Galveston

Under new leadership, the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the
University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) will be undergoing dynamic growth
and development with the anticipated recruitment of five additional faculty
members in the next two to three years. We are now seeking applications for
three tenure-track positions at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR or ASSOCIATE
PROFESSOR level. Applicants must have a doctoral degree, at least two years
of completed postdoctoral training, and experience in grant writing.
Applicants at the associate professor level should demonstrate sustained
funding including major extramural support.
The successful candidates will be expected to develop and sustain strong and
independent extramurally-funded research programs and to contribute to the
graduate and medical teaching missions of the department. Research areas of
special interest include but are not limited to: effects of drugs and
toxicants on cellular signaling pathways; regulation of expression of
biotransformation enzymes; molecular and cellular neuropharmacology;
molecular neuroscience of psychiatric diseases, including substance abuse;
cancer cell biology; cardiovascular pharmacology. Individuals with
demonstrated productivity utilizing molecular, cellular, or genetic
approaches to elucidate mechanisms of drug, toxicant or carcinogen action
are especially encouraged to apply.
The positions offer very competitive salaries and start-up packages. In
addition, attractive opportunities exist for new faculty development through
participation in an NIEHS-funded Center in Environmental Health Sciences and
the Sealy Centers for Cancer Cell Biology, Molecular Cardiology, and
Structural Biology. New Centers of Excellence in Environmental Health and
Medicine, Neuroscience, Gastrointestinal Health, and Bioinformatics/Genomics
will provide access to new core facilities and additional opportunities for
collaborations to enhance individual research efforts.
