That has nothing to do with research (which was Joel's point). Research is
necessary because, done properly, it's a rational way to find out what
works, what harms, what doesn't offer any advantage, etc. I certainly hope
your decisions have some basis or are grounded in research in some way.
I'm sure you don't visit the local hardware store to find something that
your gut tells you might work.
Do schools try to get students to critically evaluate research? I can only
speak for one and the answer in that case was "yes".
