Expert Panel Oversight Review of the Health Assessment of 1,3-Butadiene
for the Priority Substances List of the Health Protection Branch, Canada
On November 30, 1998 an expert oversight panel will convene and discuss
the final draft of the Health Assessment of 1,3-Butadiene for the
Priority Substances List of the Health Protection Branch (HPB), Canada.
The panel review is being funded by the HPB with independent oversight
by Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment (TERA).
The panel is charged with reviewing previous expert reviewer comments,
the context in which they apply to the Health Assessment for
1,3-Butadiene, and the appropriateness of the amendments made to the
The meeting will take place at the Lord Elgin Hotel, Ottawa, Ontario on
Monday, November 30, 1998. The meeting will be open to the public.

This independent panel review was organized by Toxicology Excellence for
Risk Assessment (TERA); a non-profit corporation dedicated to the best
use of toxicity data for risk assessment. The review panel is made up
of experts in the major areas concern (risk assessment, epidemiology,
and biostatistics) thereby creating a balanced panel. Consideration of
the selection of the panel was undertaken to eliminate potential
conflict of interest issues. A summary of the meeting will be made
