>Peer Review of Soluble Nickel Salts Risk Assessment
>
>An expert peer review of a nickel (soluble salts) risk document will be
>held on January 13 and 14, 1999 at the University of Cincinnati, College
>of Medicine in Cincinnati Ohio. This independent peer review meeting is
>held under the International Toxicity Estimates for Risk (ITER) program
>of Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment (TERA). A team of TERA
>staff and outside experts wrote the nickel document with funding from
>the Metal Finishing Association of Southern California and the U.S. EPA
>Office of Water. Health Canada is providing funding for the peer
>review. Because TERA staff wrote large parts of the document, a group
>from the TERA Board of Trustees independently selected the panel of
>experts with diverse experience.
>
>The purpose of the peer review meeting is to evaluate the nickel
>document, which assesses both noncancer and cancer endpoints for the
>oral and inhalation routes of exposure. The peer review panel is made
>up of scientists from industry, government, consulting, and academia,
>creating a balanced panel, while carefully managing potential conflict
>of interest issues. The meeting will be open to the public. Observers
>must preregister; there is a $40 registration fee to cover the cost of
>materials and lunches.
>
>This independent peer review is organized by Toxicology Excellence for
>Risk Assessment (TERA); a non-profit corporation dedicated to the best
>use of toxicity data for risk assessment. More information about the
>peer review program, including a list of approved reviewers and
>summaries from previous meetings can be found at http://www.tera.org.
