I recently had an elemental analysis using packed erythrocytes (red
blood cells or RBC's) done at Great Smokies Diagnostic Labs. The
results showed my mercury levels to be 2.5 times normal.
The results were 23ppm of Hg, normal being < 9ppm.
This test is a non-standard one, so my doctor ordered 24hr urine, and
blood serum tests for mercury to try and confirm the results. These
both came back normal.
Does anyone know how reliable Great Smokie's test is? Is it possible
to have normal levels of Hg in the blood serun but raised levels in
the RBCs (methyl mercury seems to like to hang out in the RBC's)?
These mixed results are confusing.
Thanks, Sean.
