The Department of Biology at Bates College, a selective liberal arts
college of 1600 students, has a TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position
open for an ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGIST beginning in September of 1998.
Our toxicologist will become the 9th full-time faculty member in biology.
S/he will participate in the departments core curriculum, and teach
introductory environmental toxicology and additional courses in her/his
area of expertise. Candidates whose approach to environmental toxicology
includes competence in public health, epidemiology, embryology, and/or
teratology will be given preference. In addition, she or he will be
expected to conduct an active research program involving Bates
undergraduates. The department seeks applications from candidates whose
research interests involve the health effects of environmental toxins at
the tissue or whole organism level of biological organization. A Ph. D.
is required and postdoctoral training is desirable.
Bates College is located in southern Maine, 2.5 hours from Boston, in the
city of Lewiston, known for its Franco-American cultural influence and
proximity to scenic mountains and beautiful coastline. Since its
founding in 1855, the college has been coeducational and enrolled
students of various religious and racial/ethnic groups. It has
