Two postdoctoral positions are available at Iowa State University in the
following areas:
Position 1)
A postdoctoral position is available to work on the interaction of the
sugarbeet cyst nematode (Heterodera schachtii) with Arabidopsis thaliana.
The project initially deals with the characterization of identified A.
thaliana genes that change expression around the infecting nematode. This
gene characterization will use promoter studies, in situ hybridization,
immunolocalization, and experiments targeted to alter expression of the
gene-of-interest. Second, this position will have an increasing genetic
component consisting of the characterization of A. thaliana mutants with
altered susceptibility to the nematode. Applicants should have strong
documented records in molecular biology, genetics, plant physiology, and
techniques related to the projects described above.
Position 2)
A postdoctoral position is available to identify and characterize cyst
nematode parasitism proteins. The project utilizes modern genomics tools
(i.e., high throughput sequencing and microchips) besides standard molecular
biology procedures. Genes for parasitism proteins will be further
characterized by in situ hybridization and immunolocalization studies.
Successful applicants should have strong documented records in molecular
biology and should have strong interests in computational biology and
plant-microbe interactions.
The annual salary for either position will be $28,000 and the initial
appointment will be for one year with a renewal for additional years
