Dear Photosynthesizers (Jack Myers will have said: Photosynthetikers):

All of us have endured a lot since 9-11. I wish you all a
Happy Christmas
and a wonderful New Year to come. Enjoy yourselves and be thankful for
everything we have.

I encourage you to visit my web page
to see the two new lists there:(1) Members of National Academy of Sciences
(USA); and (2) Fellows of the Royal Society (UK)(courtesy of JohnAllen),
related to "photosynthesis". Also, enjoy the article "Photosynthesis and
the Web:2001" by Larry Orr and Govindjee
(http://www.life.uiuc.edu/govindjee/photoweb). It is great for teaching, I
am told.

I hope you have seen the beautiful book "Photosynthesis:
Photobiochemistry and Photobiophysics" by Bacon Ke. It is a 700+ page great
book available in paperback at a very low cost from Kluwer Academic (Volume
10 of AIPH series). It is great for all researchers and all graduate
students. In addition, I would like you to enjoy Eva-Mari Aro and Bertil
Anderson's book on "Regulation of Photosynthesis", a gold mine indeed,
published as Volume 11 in AIPH series. Please watch out for 3 new books in
late 2002: "Antenna" (Bev Green and Bill Parson); "Algae" (Tony Larkum, S.
Douglas and John Raven); and "Nitrogen Metabolism" (Christine Foyer and
Graham Noctor), also in AIPH Series.

Another thing to watch out will be special issues on "historical
highlights of photosynthesis research", the millennium issues, to be
published in a couple of double issues in 2002. I cannot guarantee the
dates. I hope to start sending several papers to press sometimes this
month. On behalf of Howard Gest and myself, I thank all the authors for
their participation in this great project. I am sure you will enjoy the
mini-reviews immensely.

Finally, on the personal side, see the photographic talent of Pierre
Sebban as I have replaced my "formal" picture from my web side with the
informal one taken by Pierre in Australia. . Thanks Pierre. I am, however,
at a loss as to how the background color on my main web page turned into
white. I spent too many hours today trying to figure that out. Then, I gave
up . Rajni said "I like the new background better than the one
before".This was the silver lining in a dark cloud.
Hope some of you will write to me and/or Larry Orr
(Larry.Orr at asu.edu) if
you have thoughts to improve our photosynthesis world or the Web article
for 2002!

At your service, as always,

          Govindjee (Govindjee)
