Postdoctoral Position at the University of Florida.
A postdoctoral position in the Photosynthesis Research Laboratory of the
Department of Botany is available June 1, 1997. This position is for work on a
NSF-funded project which involves characterization of a novel, and possibly
ancestral, form of C4 photosynthesis. The C4-type photosynthesis under
investigation is an easily inducible system that operates without the anatomica
morphological characteristics of typical C4 species (see Plant, Cell &
Environment 1997, 20:211-220), but can concentrate CO2 up to 400 micromolar
in the chloroplasts. The work involves the characterization of key enzymes
involved in the induction of the C4 cycle, including recombinant expression of
recently cloned PEPC isoforms. Applicants should have experience in
biochemistry, preferably enzymology, and be familiar with molecular techniques.
A cv and the names of references should be sent to Dr. George Bowes,
Department of Botany, 220 Bartram Hall, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL
