Dientamoeba fragilis

Dear Bill,
Opinion is divided over whether D. fragilis infection should be treated
or not. In general, if you are in North America you will be treated,
while in Europe you will not.
Various treatments have been used for this infection. The most recent
ones were (from Australia) iodoquinol plus doxycycline and (from Turkey)
secnidazole. However, since you mention that your infection was
diagnosed several years ago I would suggest that you check that it is
still present before seeking any treatment. The symptoms you describe
could have many different causes not all of which are infectious.
