Biological Technician I
Johnson Controls World Services Inc. has an excellent opportunity for a
full-time Biological Technician I to perform contract work with
Parasitology Laboratory at the National Wildlife Health Center in
Madison, Wisconsin. Qualified individuals must have education,
laboratory, and field experience in a discipline related to
Parasitology. Experience assisting with laboratory research experiments
in parasitology of amphibians is desired. The ideal candidate will have
knowledge of standard laboratory practices, data management, literature
research, data analysis, and report writing. The candidate will assist
Dr. Rebecca Cole with the following:
? Establish snail, parasite and frog cultures in the lab under the
technical direction of task manager. Restrain hamsters for oral
inoculations of parasites. Observe infected animals for adverse
reactions. Raise tadpoles from an egg stage, infect with parasites and
expose to various levels of atrazine. Observe and record
morbidity/mortality of tadpoles.
? Conduct routine cell culture, making simple chemical solutions such
as, but not limited to, ethanols, stains, media, etc. Maintain,
operate, and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments such as, but
not limited to, scales, oxygen meters, pH meters, etc.
? Assimilate and perform elementary statistical manipulations such as
calculating means, conducting Student t-tests, and Chi-square analysis
on raw data for submission to task manager for manuscript writing.
? Execute simple computer programs designed to organize literature
references, analyze biological and environmental data, produce
statistical output, generate graphs, and produce summarization reports
of laboratory data. Prepare reports on non-scientific data tasks
including laboratory operations, bibliographic searches and archiving.
