General Biologist I

Johnson Controls World Services Inc. has an excellent opportunity for a
full-time General Biologist I to perform contract work with Parasitology
Laboratory at the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison,
Wisconsin.  Qualified individuals must have a B.S., laboratory, and
field experience in a discipline related to Parasitology.  Experience
conducting field and laboratory research experiments in parasitology of
fish is desired.  The ideal candidate will have knowledge of standard
field/laboratory practices, data management, data analysis, and report
writing.  The candidate will assist Dr. Rebecca Cole with the following:

? Dissect animals or animal tissues in preparation for parasite
isolation.  Prepare and identify parasites using taxonomic keys from the
existing literature.  Collect and identify zooplankton to species using
taxonomic keys from the literature.  Establish zooplankton cultures in
the lab.

? Coordinate field activities, including the preparation of supplies and
equipment for 3-4 multi-day trips to the Grand Canyon.  Acquire
environmental and biological data in the field and laboratory
environments.  Count and identify species of parasites collected,
categorizing by host species, sex of host species and location
collected.  Enumerate and identify species of zooplankton collected by
location.  Coordinate with task manager to prepare diagnostic laboratory
submissions.  Maintain, operate and calibrate equipment and instruments
such as but not limited to, scales, oxygen meters, pH meters, etc.

? Execute simple computer programs designed to analyze biological and
environmental data, produce statistical output, generate graphs, and
produce summarization reports of field and laboratory data.

? Coordinate with task manager, to summarize and analyze data, write
reports and incorporate data into manuscripts for publication.  Prepare
and present information at Center meetings or regional/national
scientific meetings.
