SOUTHEASTERN SOCIETY OF PARASITOLOGISTS

     The Southeastern Society of Parasitologists held its
annual meeting at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville,
TN, on April 19-21, 1995.  The meeting was held jointly
with the annual meeting of the Association of Southeastern
Biologists.  The meeting was planned and executed by
President-elect and Program officer Dr. Leon
Duobinis-Gray, President Dr. Larry Roberts,  Vice-President
Dr. John Aho, and the local organizing committee (Vina
Diderrich, Charles Faulkner, and Sharon Patton). The
scientific program consisted of 39 parasitology papers and
an additional 238 papers and posters in the ASB sessions.
The Byrd-Dunn Award for the best paper presented at the
annual meeting by a student was presented to Julia S.
Jackson, University of South Alabama for her paper entitled
"The Effect of Naked DNA on the Granulomatous Response to
Schistosoma mansoni eggs in the Livers of Infected Mice."

     The Presidential symposium entitled "An Eclectic
Symposium of Parasitology" was organized by Dr.
Duobinis-Gray.  Symposium speakers and topics were
"Parasites in Paradise: Conservation of Native Hawaiian
Stream Fishes" - Dr. William F. Font, "Structure and
Activity of Avermectins and Milbemycins in Animal Health" -
Dr.  Wesley L. Shoop, "It's a Copepody World" - Dr. George
W. Benz.   On Thursday night all societies represented
gathered for a most enjoyable Barbeque and Bluegrass
social. ASP president Dr. Sherwin Desser addressed the
group after the SSP luncheon on Friday.

     At the business meeting, 32 individuals were approved
for full or student membership; Dr. Thomas Cheng was
approved for Emeritus membership.  Officers of the society
for 1995-96 are as follows: President - Dr. Leon
Duobinis-Gray,President-Elect - Dr. Robin Overstreet, Vice
President - Dr. David Lindsay, Secretary-Treasurer - Dr.
Sharon Patton.  The 1996 meeting of the Society will be
held in Kentucky at the Murray State University Hancock
Biological Station on Kentucky Lake.  For further
