Definition of parasite:

Raison d'etre of parasitologists.

Definition of parasitologist:

A quaint individual who sits on one stool looking at another.

(paraphrased from Shmidt and Roberts).

The point being... don't even try to find a biological defintion.  There isn't
one and there will never be one.
The field of parasitology is defined by the scope of those considering
themselves to be parasitologists.  Hull makes similar arguments
regarding fields or schools of systematics in Science as a Process.

This is not a cynical statement.
