A recent US patent application from Korean Institute of Science and
Technology describes a method for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease
by detecting the presence of 24S-hydroxycholesterol in a sample of
hair from a patient. The concentration of 24S-hydroxycholesterol which
is statistically significantly greater than an average concentration
of 24S-hydroxycholesterol in healthy people indicates a preliminary
diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. The average concentration of 24S-
