Dear colleagues:
The International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN), the Latin-American Chapter of Clinical Neurophysiology, and the Cuban Society of Clinical Neurophysiology are pleased to announce the 5th LATIN-AMERICAN CONGRESS OF CLINICAL NEUROPHYSIOLOGY, to be held at the Varadero Beach International Conference Center, Cuba, on March 11-14, 2008.
Our Congress will be held at a time when clinical neurophysiology is revitalized andrecognized as an advantageous approach for understanding the function of the nervous system in health and disease. Nowadays, neuroscientists comprehend that the recording of electrical and magnetic signals produced by the nervous system entail a high time resolution time for assessing the brain processes underlying perception, motor command, decision making and cognition, in addition to synaptic transmission and conduction along nervous pathways. Moreover, recent advances in fusion of neuroimages allow overlapping the information provided by neurophysiology and other neuroimaging thechiques.
In Cuba, a remarkable development of Clinical Neurophysiology has occurred during the last decades. We have developed a nationwide network of clinical neurophysiological laboratories. More than 44 units located at hospitals, and research institutions are already functioning in all provinces and cities of our country. Our Society has more than 150 members, and it is recognized for its clinical and scientific achievements among all Latin-American countries, and the rest of the world.
Our main goal is to provide a suitable scientific platform to discuss all topics related to clinical neurophysiology. Cubans, as hosts, welcome you in Varadero in March, 2008! and sincerely offer a warm hospitality.
Calixto Machado, MD, Ph.D.
President of the Congress
