I was refering to a specific brain region - medial Reticular Formation in 
human brain stem - which by many is considered as a uniformally organized 
brain area.  They question the nature, the mechanism which allows functional 
independence of what some call "functional nodes" within this area of brain. 
This is what I am attempting to understand from different points of view. I 
have no doubts that your references will help.
