I think it's possible to apply statistical methods
to highly realistic single-neuron models (such as
NEURON or GENESIS) and thus automatically obtain
*simplified* single-neuron models. The statistical
methods include:
1. dimensionality reduction
2. nonlinear regression
and a plethora of tools I've just discovered from
books recently. If this is possible, then we can
start to talk about dendritic integration in
quantitative terms, with the simplified equations.
Has anyone done this?
