I have heard the term "dynamic clamp" used to describe V-clamping
a cell with a profile that mimics the action potential, rather than
the more usual level and step protocols. In other words, you are
forcing the cell through an AP rather than allowing it to generate
one itself. Of course, you can drive the V-clamp with any waveform
you wish, within the limits set by the electronics on dV/dt-max.
