Precisely the point.
Many English dictionaries now defines "bastard" as something different than
when the KJV translators translated Hebrew word "mamzer". The original
Hebrew word "mamzer" still means "mongrel" in English:
The following Holy Scripture is meaningless as translated by the KJV
translators:
Zec 9:6 And a bastard4464 shall dwell3427 in Ashdod,795 and I will cut
off3772 the pride1347 of the Philistines.6430
4464 is Strong's for "mamzer".
Here is how most translators translate it today:
(BBE) And a mixed people will be living in Ashdod, and I will have the
pride of the Philistines cut off.
(CEV) A mob of half-breeds will settle in Ashdod, and the Lord himself will
rob Philistia of pride.
(GNB) People of mixed race will live in Ashdod. The LORD says, "I will
humble all these proud Philistines.
(GW) A mixed race will live in Ashdod, and I will cut off the Philistines'
arrogance.
(RSV) a mongrel people shall dwell in Ashdod; and I will make an end of the
pride of Philistia.
(WEB) Foriegners will dwell in Ashdod, And I will cut off the pride of the
Philistines.
So where KJV used "bastard", others used "mixed people", "half-breeds",
"mixed race", "mongrel people", and even "foreigners".
Otherwise, it makes no sense.
It DID make sense then, when a "bastard" was defined in English as
"mongrel", but now that it's defined as "illegitimate child", the word
"bastard" is misleading in this Scripture.

We're using English dictionaries to determine the original meaning of the
English word "bastard".
The actual Hebrew word "mamzer" didn't change, at all. It still means
"mongrel".

Which means only that the English definition of "bastard" changed--not that
the Holy Bible, or the Hebrew word "mamzer", or the English word "mongrel",
or the Israelite law, ever changed.
