in my prior post, i was looking at the "R." in the msg hdr, and didn't
realize that it was just the hdr title, truncated at its first character,
with the first dot in the substitutional elipsis that occurs when a title is
truncated [because of thread-indentation] in my newsgroup reader.
what i saw was "R. mat", and 'thought' 'mat' had ajusted his 'handle'.
