The latest data on AIDS/ethnicity in Canada have been released by Health
Canada.
I offer some highlights:
1)The number of AIDS cases has declined over the last 10 years from 1,556
cases in 1991 to 261 in 2000. The number of cases in some ethnic groups has
not declined at the same rate as others.
2) The proportion of whites with AIDS has declined over the last 10 years.
In 1991, the proportion of reported AIDS cases among Whites was 88.6% and in
1995, 83.0%. In 1999, the proportion of cases with known ethnicity dipped to
66.1% among Whites, but has since increased to 74.8% in 2000. With a
decrease among Whites, there has been a corresponding increase in the
proportion of reported AIDS cases among other ethnic groups. The increase
has been most notable among Aboriginal persons and the Black population
since 1994
3) In 1996, Aboriginal persons and Blacks comprised 2.8% and 2.0% of
Canada's population. In 2000, they accounted for 9.2 % and 8.3% of reported
AIDS cases, respectively. this indicates that both Aboriginal persons and
Blacks are over-represented in reported AIDS cases in 2000.

When we want to figure out the Black percentage of AIDS-cases living with
this disease, we want to include the White Majority.
201.419 is 62% of the cases, which means that the total number of cases is
approximately 324,869.
And so we find that 133,630 is 41% of the total cases - tthe conclusion is
that Blacks represent the majority of persons living with AIDS, while they
are 13-14% of the total population.

The Color of Crime, a New Century Foundation study based on federal crime
reports, has found significant differences in violent crime rates for
different racial and ethnic groups. Blacks, for example, are many times more
likely to commit crimes of violence against whites than vice versa. Of the
approximately 1,700,000 interracial violent crimes involving blacks and
whites reported every year, blacks commit 90 percent and whites commit only
ten percent. Blacks are therefore more than 50 times more likely than whites
to commit interracial crimes of violence. The differences are even greater
for multiple-offender interracial crimes, with blacks 100 to 250 times more
likely to be involved in gang attacks on whites than the reverse."
