It's a little rude to reply to oneself, but I would like to point out that
I am wrong.  Having checked many of the links, it is clear that
the evidence indicates that, on average, men have a higher
pain threshold than women.  The one study I saw with the opposite
result appreared to have been extrapolated from research on
pregnant rats, which says volumes about its relevance.
