Kerry,
Here's a ton of links, tutorials, course notes, etc, by the (famous)
Wisconsin Program for Hearing Research.
http://www.neurophys.wisc.edu/www/aud/
See especially the very first item under Local: The Auditory Tour
Archive. This is a suite of tutorials and animations, including an
audiovisual demonstration of hair cell damage and its effects on how
sounds are perceived (i.e., you get to hear what things sound like to
people with certain kinds of hearing losses).
Note: This "Tour" is a downloadable, stand-alone application. It may
try to reset your screen to 256 colors when you run it, which will
-look- very alarming but is harmless. You can reset your screen
afterwards with your computer's control panel program.
Cheers,
Matt
