Some recent support for my earlier suggestions. Earlier I suggested
lecithin and DHEA to prevent AD. I did not explain why. I just found a
recent report which adds support to my suggestions. I suggested DHEA
because it is known to positively affect neuronal growth and development and
maintenance of the brain. DHEA is low in AD. I suggested lecithin because
it is a good source of choline, a precursor to acetylcholine. Hence, DHEA
for nerve growth and maintenance and choline to help maintain the
acetylcholine system. This report, just out in "Archives of Internal
Medicine," adds support to increasing choline. "Conclusion Exposure to ACH
medications is independently and specifically associated with a subsequent
increase in delirium symptom severity in elderly medical inpatients with
diagnosed delirium." (Arch Intern Med. 2001;161:1099-1105). Dementia and
delirium are often characteristics of AD. (Of course neither of these
supplements will work if the neurons are dead. These would make excellent
supplements in people who have AD in their families.)
