And there's physical and psychological dependance, as you probably know.

In addition, there's physician ignorance which might look like "addiction".
My bro took Zopiclone for almost 6 years and kept asking for more and more.
His doctor became worried about bro's "dependance".  Too bad the doctor didn't
recognize the signs of severe sleep apnea.  Wrong diagnosis, wrong treatment.

PS This is not an anomaly, happens far too often IMO
