Problem is, the "magnitude" in question is the magnitude of the public
interest in the development, or of the PR campaign of the developers, not
the actual scientific importance.  If it doesn't have the right buzzwords,
it likely doesn't make the evening news.

IOW, the Singularity will not be televised...
