I think you have something. The best classical performers are usually very
intelligent people but to get there you have to do a LOT of practice which
is often - for want of a better word - boring. It probably takes a very
special kind of person to get past this.
Also you can be a scientist and still get satisfaction playing music: it
doesn't work the other way round. Of course the satisfaction is always
tempereed by the fact that you wish you could play something better - but I
suspect that is always the case no matter how good you get :-)
