If one of the eyes couldn't move in any direction - vertically
or horizontally - it suggests that there was some midbrain
involvement, or possibly some involvement of exiting 3rd nerve
fibers.

Re the need to have an eye sewn shut - that suggests loss of
sensation to the cornea along with inability to close the eye,
both which might occur with lesions in the pons.
