estrogen levels and the postpartum period

I was wondering if anyone had any info on
the pattern of estrogen levels during the
postpartum period. I know- I think, anyway ;) -
that estrogen levels are very very low initially.
I was wondering, if a woman continues bf,
if estrogen levels remain low or eventually
return to normal levels. I just came across
a blurb that said prolactin increases estrogen
receptors. So, I was wondering if you would
get an enhanced estrogen effect once estrogen
levels started coming back to normal.....and
if anyone has looked at this in patients with
autoimmune problems?

Thanks!
Lisa

PS, since I'm posting, I will just ask, as an aside,
does anyone know if there is an immune link
between mercury and nickel?
