We, at Columbus Instruments, have developed a procedure and the equipment (
Columbus NIBP Monitor) for measuring blood pressure, non-invasively, of
unrestrained and unheated rats.
The equipment can also measure mouse blood pressure with minimal preheating of
the tail (not the body) of the animal.
The preheating of the tail takes place a few minutes before the actual
measurement is taken at the room temperature. Unfortunately, due to the mouse
natural high locomotor activity, the animal has to be restrained during the BP
measurements.
