I know the risk of spawning a whole new series of Cijadrachon
philosophical wanderings, but this is a legitimate and honest
question.

Neurogenesis is the origin of new neurons.
That is, it has always been assumed that neurons can't divide
or regenerate in the human central nervous system after the
initial brain-forming activity. The new work indicates that stem
cells persist that can give rise to functional neurons, at least
in the hippocampus.

Genesis by itself means origins.  The phrase is used in a
technical sense, not in the sense of "ultimate origins"
