Sure, atheism is a religion. Agnosticism isn't a religion but atheism is
a positive set of beliefs about the nature of the universe which fits
any sensible definition of the word.
And I wouldn't be surprised to learn that atheists live longer than
agnostics.
It appears thet the human brain comes hardwired to aquire religious
belief in much the same way it's hardwired to aquire language. I suspect
that it's evolved as a necessary adjunct of high inteligence to protect
us from knowledge of mortality.
