My daughter has recently been diagnosed with total craniosynostosis
associated with microcephaly. Other than the small size of her head, there
are no other outward symptoms. This diagnosis was arrived at through a
standard skull X-Ray. Because she is 8 years old, her pediatrician is not
clear on whether or not the type of surgery which is normally performed to
correct this condition in infants will be safe for her.
I have two questions:
1) Is this condition safely treatable by surgery in an 8 year-old
child?
2) Is an MRI and/or CT scan warranted in this case in order to make
a more accurate diagnosis?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.
