NEW TRENDS IN NEUROPROTECTION
Come è noto il trauma cranico è la principale causa di morte e invalidità nei giovani tra i 14 e i 35 anni.
Attualmente non esiste ancora un trattamento per porre rimedio al danno cerebrale primario che si sviluppa in seguito ad un grave trauma cranico.
La prevenzione è l'unica risposta.
Molto è invece possibile fare per il danno secondario, che inizia dal momento del trauma e aggrava una già difficile situazione di sofferenza neuronale : in questo caso l'imperativo primario è non sbagliare. Infatti gravi, ulteriori danni possono instaurarsi a causa di comportamenti inadeguati.
Poste queste basi, è importante comprendere meglio i meccanismi fisiopatologici a livello cellulare e molecolare su cui in futuro sarà forse possibile agire. Per questo motivo, abbiamo pensato di riunire alcuni dei maggiori esperti del campo e confrontare con loro le esperienze, sperando in questo modo di poter dare un contributo alla lotta contro "l'epidemia silente".
It's well known that the traumatic brain injury is the main cause of death and invalidity in young people between 14 and 35 years old. Currently a treatment does not exist yet in order to place remedy to primary cerebral damage that it is developed later on to serious traumatic head injury. The only answer could be the prevention. It is possible, instead, to act on the secondary damage which begins at the moment of the trauma and gets worse a difficult situation of neuronal suffering: in this case we do not have to behave in a inadequate way. In fact, because of inadequate behaviors can begin other serious damages. Cleared these bases, it is important to better understand the phisiopathological mechanisms to cellular and molecular level on which in future it will be perhaps possible to act. For this reason, we have thought to re-unite some of the greater experts of the field and to confront their experiences in this way, hoping of being able to give a contribution to the fight against " the silent epidemic ".
