Follow-up: because the assertion that lidocaine had no known side
effects was made so matter-of-factly, I thought I should check current
status of MY view of local anesthetics. Quick Medline search via Ovid
disk confirms seizure provocation by this class of anesthetics
(cocaine, lidocaine, procaine) is still alively field of investigation.
New and socially-relevant findings: synergistic (not overlapping nor
even additive, but synbergistic) effect of cocaine and lidocaine in
this "side effect". ALSO: cross sensitization, such that history of
cocaine use may potentiate lidocaine seizure provocation...
(To my disappointment, did not find anything in this recent time frame
on lidocaine etc. and PARTIAL seizures)
