I nominate John Cameron, for directing "Titanic"!

He was also Time's Man-of-the-Year back about 1938 (no joke).

Frankly, I've been disturbed by this thread, because not only are many
of the nominees European, they are also eukaryotic. With such a
narrow and biased view, we are ignoring the rich cultural diversity
of the prokaryotes.

Some influential works of fiction have also been
glossed over by the overly elite discussion:

"Love Story" by Erich Segal, and
"Johnathan Livingston Seagull" by Love Story.

The discussion of slavery is also quite distressing, since
we are ignoring several distinct advantages, held by England,
which allowed early abolition of slavery, namely:

1) Ireland.
2) Other colonies in Asia and Africa.
3) An abundant supply of cherubic youngsters, eager to
work 14-hour days for purchases in the communal (company) store
(special thanks to Walt Disney for the score of "Oliver").
4) Willing trade partners in Asia, eager to obtain badly needed
   pharmacological supplies.
