The traffic in this group was fairly low before the sudden influx of
abduction zealots and conspiracy fools. I would imagine most researchers
would use the othernet[tm], and browse this for posts from the public. Had
the traffic been commonly high, I would have held off on my two facetious
responses.
One problem is that anyone qualified to moderate would also be flat-out
with teaching and research - some threads in the past have been anything
but scientific, but the questions uneducated people ask can sometimes be
quite interesting and thought provoking.
However, FWIW, I'd add a vote for a moderated conference, even if only one
in ten of my posts would get through;-)
