Announcing the following job opening in the Dept. of Molecular and Cell
Biology at UC Berkeley:
JVL, Staff Research Associate III,(75%)
Assume responsibility for organization, planning and technical preparation
of the neurobiology teaching laboratory. Assist with technical aspects
of instruction to students. With faculty develop new experimental
protocols, including computer based data acquisition systems and video
imaging. Set up, calibrate, maintain and trouble shoot
electronic/physiological equipment. Prepare living biological materials,
including nerve dissections, for use in the teaching lab. During
laboratory periods, answer questions, replenish supplies, and
trouble-shoot problems. Direct work of junior staff.
Techniques covered in the neurobiology course include extracellular,
intracellular, EEG, and voltage clamp recording, heterologous expression
of ion channels in oocytes, immunohistochemistry, retrograde labeling of
CNS neurons, fluorescence and video microscopy.
Qualifications: Course work in biological sciences including intensive
graduate level laboratory experience in neurobiology. Recent experience
in neurophysiological instrumentation and familiarity with computer based
data acquisition systems and video imaging programs req. Analytical
ability, mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity and interpersonal skills
are essential. Background in electronics and/or computer programming
desirable. Note: Scientific/Technical coursework form or a transcript
required.
Career position with annual 3 month furlough (from June through August).
Position available September 1,1998.
