A whiplash injury may cause jaw problems for two reasons.
First the hyperextension - flexion of the neck at the time of the
accident can result in damage to the temporomandibular joint itself.
That is the joint at which the jaw bone attaches to the skull just in
front of the ear. Second the spasms and tightness in the area of the neck
can refer pain and cause spasming in the area of the fascial muscles.
Both may lead to problems with jaw and/or bite resulting in dental
problems. There is an excellent publication I use on whiplash injuries.
