melatonin and sleep....

Question: If you have daytime fatigue and sleepiness because
	you do not receive proper sleep. Melatonin helps induce 
	and deepen sleep.  You are then less fatigued. How then
	is this a placebo effect ? It seems like a direct effect to me.
