APPLICATION DEADLINE: 4/28/97

Pre-doctoral Research (Pre-IRTA) Fellowship at NIH (National Institutes of
Health) studying primate auditory system (beginning 6/1/97)

Our laboratory is currently conducting research on auditory learning and
memory in the rhesus monkey. We are looking for a motivated person to
help with monkey training, sound generation and behavioral data analysis.
The position to be filled is a 1-2 year NIH fellowship for students with
a recent degree in psychology, anthropology, zoology or biology.
You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and intend to proceed with
further studies, i.e. graduate, medical or other professional schools.
The individual will be primarily responsible for training and testing
monkeys in our computer-controlled testing apparatus on auditory tasks.
There are also opportunities for collaborative research on related
projects. Our laboratory is with the National Institute of Mental Health,
and located on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. We are within easy
commuting distance of Washington, DC. The National Library of Medicine,
the premier medical library in the world is located on our campus and all
its resources are available to NIH employees. Although desirable, no
experience is required, we will train you on computers and behavioral
techniques. This is an ideal opportunity for someone to gain research
experience AND recommendations to graduate school. The pre-IRTA
fellowships are 1 year in duration (and can be renewed for a second
year). Preference will be given to candidates who are available to work
here for the full two years.
