Grandmother Cells in Semantic Memory

In AI parlance it is absurd to think of a "grandmother" cell that
is the seat of the concept of your Grandmother Helen.   But it is
not absurd to think of a mini-grid of concept fibers COLLECTIVELY
holding the concept (but not the name) of somebody's grandmother.

In the ASCII brain-mind diagram below, three separate concepts --
labeled as  "H" for "Helen" -- "*" for "cat" -- "$" for  "dog" --
are shown coexisting in a random arrangement on the flat sheet of
the cortex.  Each such conceptual minigrid functions as a logical
and massively redundant unit so that no concept is dependent upon
a single "grandmother" cell to reside in, and massive parallelism
is preserved with regard to the inputs, activation and outputs of
