I think he's been done already, Eric - check out "Funes the memorious" 
(I think) by Jorge Luis Borges. I can't remember which of Borges' collections
it's in . Of course it's not really science fiction; try "Mind of
a Mnemonist" by A.R. Luria, which is a case study of such an individual
by one of the greatest neurologists of all time.
