It seems to me that it is less the case that no one cares about the
amygdala than that it pales in comparison to the cottage industry which
is the hippocampus. Because the hippocampus has an obvious and
intriguing anatomy and, significantly, is easy to identify and record
from electrophysiologically, it has gained a great deal of attention. I
suspect that most people believe the amygdala to be important and
significant for the same reasons that other cortical and quasicortical
structures are important, but it's just a little harder to look at it.
It is worth the effort, though....
