Symposium on Nonlinear Systems
in Medicine and Biology
May 11-12, 1994
Indiana University Purdue University
Indianapolis
(IUPUI)
In conjunction with the 25th Anniversary
Celebration at IUPUI a two day Symposium
on Nonlinear Systems is planned for May
11-12, 1994. In order to capitalize on
the strengths of the IUPUI campus which
includes the Indiana University Medical
Center the symposium will focus on
applications of nonlinear systems
techniques to biology and medicine.
Speakers from around the country have
been invited to explain how they have
applied nonlinear science to topics drawn
from the general areas of biology and
medicine. All participants are invited
to contribute poster presentations in
order to foster further overlap and
interaction in this highly
interdisciplinary field. May in
Indianapolis is Indy 500 month! Trips
will be arranged to the racetrack on the
afternoon of May 12 to view practice runs
of Indy cars and the garage areas.
Confirmed speakers include:
David Clapham, Mayo Clinic "Spiral
Calcium Waves in Xenopus Oocytes"
William Ditto, Georgia Institute of
Technology "Chaos and Chaos Control of
Heart and Brain"
Stuart Kauffman, Santa Fe Institute
"The Origins of Order: Self-Organization
and Selection in Evolution"
Scott Kelso, Florida Atlantic
University "Spatiotemporal Dynamics of
the Human Brain"
Simon Levin, Princeton "Global Change,
Biological Diversity and the Problem of
Scale"
Richard Voss, IBM "The Practical
Fractal"
Symposium Co-chairs
