COMPUTER OFFICER
McDONNELL-PEW CENTRE FOR COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE
An award from the McDonnell-Pew Program in Cognitive Neuroscience,
based in the United States, has funded a Centre for Cognitive
Neuroscience at the University of Oxford. The Centre links work on
many aspects of brain research relevant to human cognition in several
departments at Oxford and other institutions. It is particularly
concerned with the application of neural networks and other
computational modelling methods of neurophysiological and
psychological studies of perceptual analysis and memory, and with the
linking of basic psychophysical and behavioural research with clinical
work on perception, memory and the control of movement.
Individuals with extensive experience of modern computing techniques
are invited to apply for the post of Computer Officer on the RSII
Scale (18,855 -- 25,107 pounds, depending on age and experience).
The Computer Officer will advise on and assist with computing
activities in the Centre (real-time experimental control, image
processing and related developments in connection with brain imaging,
management of computer systems, data analysis, etc.) and will
co-ordinate the development of computer networks, specific software
applications, interfacing and other hardware for research projects.
The successful applicant might have a degree in Computer Science (or
some allied discipline) or might come from some other background which
has involved extensive experience in modern computing techniques.
Experience with the Unix operating system workstations and file
servers, DOS, real-time computing, and a variety of programming
languages including C would be an advantage.
This appointment will be made for two years in the first instance.
